Wine Gourmet Travel is all about travelling to the wine regions of the world (all of them) and what you can do in those regions.

When you browse this website, you will be dealing directly with each and every owner from the smallest wine estate in rural France to the most luxurious hotels in Florence – there are no middle man, agents, etc.

But Who Are We?

Wine Gourmet Travel is a small, family owned and, dare I say, fun loving family owned and managed business located in Franschhoek – South Africa, one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world.

The owners are Danélle & Johan Barnard.

Both of us come from a retail background.

In 1998 Johan applied for a management position at the Cape Wine Academy, was offered the job during the 2-hour interview (last of 32 to be interviewed) and that is where the love story with Wine and Travel officially began.

Part of the company induction program was to attend the Wine Courses offered by the Cape Wine Academy (CWA) and Johan was allowed to bring someone with him (Danélle) and this is where the learning process (and passion) began in earnest.

After a short stint at the CWA (just short of 2 years), Johan and Danelle decided to start their own specialized Wine and Food Tour company (www.larochelletours.com) – still going strong today.

However, the ever-restless couple always had it in the back of their minds that they wanted to take their knowledge, passion and love for wine, food and travel to a next level.

Fast forward many years to the Covid-19 era.

“So, here we are in February 2021 and after almost 1 full year of no income (the South African Wine Industry was the hardest hit from all the wine regions in the world with many hard lockdowns and two very unnecessary total bans on alcohol).

In short – we had to find a way to financially survive and hang on to our wine tour company and staff as, unlike in other countries, we did not receive any government assistance at all – we were left on our own!

During this stressful period that nagging feeling in the back of our minds re-emerged about taking our love and passion for wine and travel to the next level, hence Wine Gourmet Travel was born.

We needed a website, but with no money to waste on luxuries like a website developer Danelle, bless her soul, took it upon herself to learn to build websites.

Not only did she build this beautiful website, BUT we also started a Social Media Marketing Company (www.getsocialmarketing.co.uk) where we offer social media services and much more with our focus on the global Wine and Luxury Travel Markets.

From my side I can only say how immensely proud I am of Danelle – she really did Boss this thing!

The main aim of the website and blog is to showcase all the wine regions in the world and what you can do in them.

We want to include listings for wine estates, accommodation in the wine regions, restaurants, wine tour operators, wine merchants, activities and places of interest in each wine region of the world.”
