Enjoy your wine and game drive experience at Chamonix Estate which is nestled right next to our very own private game reserve, an oasis of wildlife a little over an hour’s drive from the city of Cape Town.
Guests are able to see some of the most spectacular views of the Franschhoek Wine Valley, see beautiful game while enjoying some award-winning wines.
Set in over 50 hectares, our game farm has been developed as a wildlife reserve by Chamonix proprietor and nature enthusiast Mr Chris Hellinger.
While the reserve is not open to the public, guests staying in the Marco Polo Safari Lodge and our lodges near the lake are able to view a variety of game including ostrich, zebra, eland, bontebok and springbok.
How does it work?
Experience a unique African experience in the heart of the Cape Winelands, with a premium Wine Tasting of some of Chamonix’s best wines from within the vineyards where they are planted and grown, followed by a Game Drive showcasing Chamonix’s magnificent wildlife. It’s the ideal addition to a fantastic day out in Franschhoek.

- Rainfall can exceed 1 500mm/year.
- The game drive vehicle is open, please dress appropriately.

How Can I Get To Chamonix?
- Include the game drive in your itinerary when you do the Non-Guided Franschhoek Vineyard Hopper (4-7 Hours or 7-10 Hours Package), Hop On-Hop-Off at your own leisure.
- You can book a taxi with Franschhoek Taxis

- Remember your hat and sunscreen
- Bring your own water and snacks
- Make sure you’re dressed for hiking (the weather can change very quickly – bring warm clothes if hiking on a warm day)
- Keep the reserve litter free – take your rubbish home with you or use the bins at the gate.
